RED FLAGS ALL OVER THE PLACE

At last Monday night's Council meeting, Supervisor Davis brought up an item that was not on the agenda. He wanted a Resolution passed giving County employees and elected officials a one time "disbursement" as sort of a Christmas bonus. It was pointed out to Mr. Davis that bringing up this Resolution when it was not on the agenda was a violation of FOIA.

Consequently, Mr. Davis has scheduled a conference call meeting for this afternoon at 2PM to address this Resolution. You haven't heard about this special meeting? Well, no wonder as no one on the agenda mailing list received notification.

GE&P has considered all the facts and has established a position: This Resolution is a bad idea for a number of reasons:

1. It goes without saying that our County employees are hard working and very deserving BUT these folks have good-paying, stable jobs with full benefits.

2. Our BC unemployment numbers are at 10+%.

3. This "disbursement" does NOT count toward retirement.

4. The tax liability for this money is far greater than that of a COLA or merit pay increase would be.

5. The taxpayers of BC, including the unemployed, could benefit from a tax reduction. Many of these taxpayers are County employees.

6. The budget process will begin shortly and the new SWMP Fee will be levied. Why not apply some of this excess money to that project?

7. BC's contribution to the employees' retirement fund is almost $5 MILLION in arrears. Will these few hundred dollars in hand right now mean more to County employees than retirement benefits and medical care in the future?

We are certain the very talented BC Finance Department is aware of all these facts. Why didn't the Administration take the time to consider all aspects of this move beforehand. Maybe they did. We must draw the conclusion that there is more to this than meets the eye. Isn't it a shame that folks immediately assume Mr. Davis is up to no good. Justifiably so.

Since BCWSA is a department of County Government I assume it applies to those folks, as well.
800 x 500 = $400,000 Merry Christmas!

Dan Davis, again, displays his inability to manage, lead, and/or supervise our County government! Watching him explain his actions on TV, was like watching Al Parrish or Bernie Maydolf(?)! In Bill O'Reillys' eyes and mine, he meets the requirements to be called a "pin head"!! In addition, it's irresponsible for our Council members to recognize that the FOIA Law has been violated and, yet, gives Dan Davis their vote when they should put up a fight and even call for an investigation by the SC State Attorney General! They should all be ashame to say that they represent anyone! For the employees, it would have been far more beneficial for them to be given a COLA or Merit Pay Increase which would have been included in their annuity (retirement) calculations! I know, I called the SC State Retirement Office yesterday and they confirmed this fact!

I THINK WE BERKELEY CTY EMPLOYEES CAN MAKE OUT OWN DECISIONS TO GET THE $500 OR NOT. YOU NEED TO WORRY
ABOUT YOUR OWN BUSINESS AND WE CAN TAKE CARE OF OURS. YOU COME OFF AS A GRUMPY OLD WOMAN. IS IT LONELY AND BORING ON HWY 311??

Well I can say from experience that BCWS employees dont make a good living.. especially the Tecnically involved jobs so a bonus is appreciated for the hard working people. What about the waste of tax payers money on the waste water treatment plant upgrade that is a mess and not being used??? what the hell. Dan and his Butt buddy Colin Martin are the bigist sneakest crooks around. Merry Christmas to all the County employees who get this bonus!!!

Dan or should we say Don,
Being as this "bonus", not to speak of your salary, comes directly out of our tax dollars, this issue is very much our business.

GE&P in no way criticized our County employees. We simply pointed out the folly of this decision by the administration. It is sad that all this man has to do is wave a few measly hundred dollars in the faces of some people and common sense and reasoning goes right out the window.

When this economy crashes, and it will, the hundreds of County employees who will lose jobs will wish our County finances had been handled more intelligently.

GE&P never fails to marvel at the LIberal mentality. These folks think the money they receive from any government source comes from some miraculous money tree and not from the taxpayers. So, we certainly hope you enjoy spending OUR extra Christmas money.
